“Hi. Embarassingly enough it has been 14 years since I have had my teeth cleaned. I am only 32y.o. and am almost too embarrassed to see a dentist, a bit fearful of the pain, and very fearful of the cost as I only have basic coverage through income support. I have quite a few small black spots (I am sure cavities) on some teeth too. Do you have any advise for me?”

First of all, don’t be embarrassed at all. The majority of the population avoids the dentist and we often have patients who have not been to the dentist for decades! And yes; people avoid us because of the fear of the pain. This fear usually goes back to a bad experience when they were younger. The good news is people who haven’t been to see a dentist for years are pleasantly surprised –and yes, sometimes ecstatic! – by how much easier it is to have dental work done than it was years ago. As for the fear of the cost – we understand that too. When a new patient comes to our office our first step is always to sit down with them and get an idea of what their goals are for their teeth. Then after a thorough examination and with the patient’s goals in mind, we will come up with a treatment plan. We always refer to out treatment plans as a “Road Map.” The patient gets to decide which “route” they want to take and how fast they want to take to get down the “Road.” That way we can work within your budget, your tolerance level and your schedule. The one thing you do not want to do is keep avoiding us, as things will only tend to get worse which can result in more costly treatment not to mention nasty toothaches! Our commitment is to make your visit enjoyable – and yes quite possibly fun!
