History of Pollard Meadows

Pollard Meadows is a neighborhood in Edmonton, Canada, that belongs to the Mill Woods community of Southwood. It was developed mainly in the 1970s and 1980s and has a mix of housing types, including single-family homes, apartments, row houses, and duplexes. Pollard Meadows has three schools: Pollard Meadows Elementary School, T.D. Baker Junior High School and Holy Family Junior High School. The neighborhood is named after Frank Pollard, who came to Edmonton in 1899 and was a pioneer farmer and coal miner. The name also reflects the wooded hay meadows that were once common in the area, where trees were pollarded to provide fodder for livestock.
