GUM DISEASE IS LINKED TO LOW BIRTH WEIGHT BABIES For several years now we have known that there is a link between gum disease (periodontal disease) and low birth weight babies. So far the research has not been 100% definitive on whether or not gum disease directly causes the low birth weight or whether there are other factors at play.  What we do know is that there is a link and as moms that’s all we need to know.
