Flu Season + Holiday Season = Your Season?
It’s The Holiday Season again. This means parties, lunches, dinners and family gatherings. We share a lot of time with a lot of people during this season and unfortunately, we also share a lot of germs with them! No wonder it seems people are always getting sick this time of year! Here are a couple of things you can do to help prevent the spread of germs; at least in your own house. If you are sick or have been recently sick, get a new toothbrush. Germs linger on toothbrushes so you want to change them frequently. Every three months is recommended – sooner if you have had the flu. My kids get new toothbrushes in their stockings! Oh the joys of being a dentist’s child! If you share a bathroom with anyone, do not put the toothbrushes together in the same container. The germs can be spread between them! Yuck! How about those lovely retainers, mouth guards, Sports guards and sleep appliances? Yes – these can harbor germs as well. Give these appliances a frequent brush with your toothbrush and toothpaste. If you have been sick (or they are looking extra nasty) soak them for a few hours in an antibacterial mouthwash. Of course, if your family and friends insist on giving you a big kiss under the mistletoe, not sure we can help you with those germs! Maybe keep that antibacterial mouth rinse handy over the Holidays! ????
