Question : Hello. I started smoking when I was a teen. Because of my smoking I have had bone loss for many years. I now have a very bad gum disease. I have had 3 of my front teeth capped twice. The last time I was at the dentist 2 months ago, I was told my teeth must be pulled and I had to two options: dentures or a bridge, as well as implants. I would sure love implants and I do not want dentures. A couple of my back teeth have fallen out and many of my teeth are loose.I was told the bridge with implants would cost $40,000.00. Is that price right? I wish when I was going to the dentist every 6 months he would of told me that I should stop smoking.

Answer from Dr. Molly Rodgers, General Dentist: Thank you so much for your question. It is always upsetting to get bad news about your teeth. It is very difficult to answer your questions about your teeth without having met you before. We are kind of like cars – you can’t just call up a body shop and ask them to tell you how much it will be to fix your car. They have to see it first. And usually you take your car to at least 3 places before you decide who will fix it. Well – the same goes for your teeth. I would advise you to get at least three opinions about the best options for you. Usually your dentist can provide you with a copy of your most current x-rays that you can take to other offices. We would love to meet you. As with most dental offices, we offer free initial consultations. Then I could give you a much better idea of what your options are. And if you really want someone to tell you to stop smoking – I can do that.

STOP SMOKING!
