A Patient Asks:

I’m curious as to whether or not dentists still use mercury in fillings?

Another great question from a patient – thank you so much. To answer your question, yes, there are a number of dentists in North America that still place mercury amalgam fillings. There has been extensive research about these fillings and based on the results of this research both the American and Canadian Dental Associations still endorse their use. As a team we made a decision eight years ago to stop placing mercury amalgam fillings. We love the strength and esthetics of composite and porcelain. And we find that most people prefer their teeth to look like teeth and amalgam definitely does not look like teeth.
